Could potatoes and sugar cane make nickel processing cheaper?
Story Summary
A West Aussie mineral explorer has won a quarter of a million dollar grant to help develop a cheaper nickel processing method.
Perth based Resource Mining Corporation received the grant from Commercialisation Australia for its organic acid nickel leaching technology.
Managing Director Warwick Davies hopes the process will significantly cut costs on nickel laterite projects by using natural carbohydrates such as sugar cane and potatoes instead of sulphuric acid during processing.
