Transport

Because of its remote location, Resource Mining Corporation further supports the local villages by sub-contracting the villagers to provide transport services to Popendetta.

All fuel used on-site is either flown in by helicopter or by fixed wing aircraft to a nearby airstrip or then “slung” by helicopter to site. Helicopters are very expensive in PNG and are increasingly difficult to hire on an ad hoc basis.

To reduce our helicopter expenses and to provide another source of income to the local villages, Resource Mining Corporation has recently initiated a service whereby we charter a boat, provide a crew member and travel to Popendetta to collect fuel and providing fuel and oil for the trip.

By delivering fuel to the villages by this means, Resource Mining Corporation saves considerably on helicopter costs but equally importantly, provides an income source to the village.

In addition, there are other spin-off benefits from this activity because it has stimulated discussion within the villages as to what other services could be provided to Resource Mining Corporation. This in turn has the potential to provide further economic, social and health benefits to local communities.
